Jet start of track at Olds College - 2.5 hours old, 800 meters, 6 articles |
This morning I laid this track for Jet for some tracking students I was working with, who drove up from Pinscer Creek and my friend Michelle Harrington. Below are Michelle, Judi, Sharlet and Debbie. All GSDs and Michelle's Canaan Dog.

Michelle with Ash and holding my River. Judi, Sharlet and Debbie - who drove up for the weekend - what fun! |
But today it was a Border Collie - my Jet - doing the demo and showing what an awesome little tracking dog she is. She did an 800 meter track which is like TWO UTDXs. When I laid it, the conditions were so nice, and I just kept going as I wanted everyone to see the variety you can get in these settings. Jet motored through the track, barely wavering off it, with loads of 'go' right to the end. It's kind of neat - Judi has known Scott Glen (Jet's breeder) since he was in short pants, and so we really enjoyed talking about Jet's breeding and working ability and how she tracks so nicely - because she has that work ethic.

Map showing start (bottom) article locations, and the pink lines show the only places she went off track slightly! Articles were sock, metal, wood, finger of leather glove, plastic, leather at end |
Talking to the people following, to explain the track - they had a map. I added the yellow lines in 'Paint' tonight - NO there are no lines on the grounds when you do these tracks (haha). |
As we came to run this track, I saw a horde of students walking down this sidewalk and boulevard ... stunning work by Jet |
Jet explored a manhole here before taking the turn |
Wood chips and sock ahead |

Finding her turn and the track ahead |
I walked with one foot on veg and one foot on the concrete sidewalk along here |
Judi Snowdon behind me with a map - Michelle Harrington (Canaan Dogs) took the pics - thanks Michelle! |
Jet snaps as she notices her metal article! I hid a piece of food under it. Metal is hard. I want her to pay attention. |
Here she went down a step into the courtyard and sniffed a big rock, then carried on. I thought she would do this, and she did - scent probably went down into this area. |
This was a short leg, and a the next leg is parallel to the one we just did - but a building is between us. |
This was a long veg leg and I thought it was harder than the hard surface stuff she did. |
And it goes on... |
...and on - a treat just beyond this manhole to reward her for getting past it... |
Finally, a turn! |
Here Jet went in and out of cars parked to follow the scent, then did a body snap as she got close to the wood. |
Wood! still there (whew) |
More wood chips, snow, veg and another parking lot ahead |
This article is the finger of a leather glove - SchH size |
Showing everyone 'the finger' - Jet looks like she is laughing! |
She found her turn, and is already winding the plastic article - a blue plastic lid |
Plastic - and ahead you can see where the track ends |
Jet was so ON at this point - on a very long track, way longer than you would find in a test |
She knew the article was in this gazebo before we even made the turn - she started showing she knew there was an article before she turned into this area - and she was very determined to find it |

Me and my little Jet - such an awesome, awesome dog! |
