Sunday Dog Days - Fun Fall Walk
Posted on Sunday, November 8, 2009 by Canine Dog Training USA
Another Sunday starts with an early morning walk at Three Mile Bend for River, Jet and Ted. We have a lot of it to ourselves at this time of day! I always like to be fair, so they get a walk every Sunday before Caden goes to Schutzhund. His exploits today will be in a future post. By the way, there is a tracking and herding connection here...when you aren't tracking, you are having a relationship with your dog - and keeping them (and yourself) in good physical and mental shape!
Chasing Ted...
However, she maintains that she is simply, always, a Princess.
It's all about balance between training, and just being a dog. Plus, I do practice commands, like HERE, and LIE DOWN! And I always have a pocket full of cookies. I am proud to say that I lined them up for this shot completely verbally! I saw the crest of the hill and just had to have a photo! That is the "obedience" portion of the walk...
And as soon as they heard the CLICK of my camera, they were gone! This is the "being a dog" part of the walk...This picture of Ted simply says "JOY!" He is so crazy about sticks, or any toy. Jet immediately lays claim to the stick (you can see her intent look above)...and she smiles up at me as if she was the one who found it! She cracks me up! River shows the little pipsqueaks (her word) what a REAL stick looks like...I am so happy that River has decided she can enjoy the dog park. Despite the culture clash, everyone has fun. The Border Collies love to run, and River loves to stop them. But as she is nine, she can't quite catch them all of the time...Chasing Ted...
Chasing Jet...
River likes the idea that Jet and Ted should have a chance to just run around and be dogs sometimes...
But sometimes she does!
Catching Ted - she says - slow down! Princess coming through!!!
We always end the walk at this bend in the Red Deer River. In the summer it means a swim. Notice, River getting along with someone's beagle (some BRAVE person with a beagle offleash!)River tries to have a drink, and is actually standing on the thin ice!River likes the idea that Jet and Ted should have a chance to just run around and be dogs sometimes...
