Holistic Veterinary Care announces the First Pet Mayor of Piedmont event, launching this fall.

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) September 17, 2011

Oakland Pet Hospital, Holistic Veterinary Care is announcing an event that will benefit the Montclair Pet and Wildlife Fund. One of the first fall events of 2011, it will take place in Oakland's Piedmont Avenue District. The event, known as The Pet Mayor of Piedmont Contest, will support injured pets and wildlife throughout the Oakland community.

Since 2004, Montclair pet mayoral candidates have raised both votes and money, resulting in more than $50,000 for the Montclair Pet and Wildlife Fund. This is a charitable organization where veterinarians use their free time and expertise to help injured wildlife found by community members. The Pet and Wildlife Fund is excited to extend participation into Piedmont's community.

The nomination period begins on September 1 and will run through the end of the month. Anyone wishing to nominate their pet should go to www.PetandWildlifeFund.org and download a nomination form, call Holistic Veterinary Care at 510-339-2600, or visit their location at 4382 Piedmont Avenue in Oakland to pick up a form.

"Candidates" will run their campaigns during the primary period, October 1 through October 17, after which eight finalists will be selected based on the number of votes collected. Voting takes place at sponsors' places of business and online at www.PetandWildlifeFund.org.

Voting will also take place at Oakland's Holistic Veterinary Care, and animal rehabilitation center, where each weekend Dr. Gary Richter, Medical Director of the Montclair Veterinary Hospital, will be available to offer free pet adoption and pet care advice.

"Come show your support for a local charity by voting for the first Pet Mayor of Piedmont. This year's first Mayor will be announced at a special ceremony complete with photo opportunities on Sunday, November 6 at 1 p.m. at Holistic Veterinary Care," said Kate Wolf of Holistic Veterinary Care.

For more information, to nominate a pet candidate or to sponsor a candidate, contact Lee Richter of The Pet & Wildlife Fund at (510) 339-2600 or visit their website at www.holisticvetcare.com.
