17833 Pets Saved During the PetSmart Charities(R) National Adoption Weekend - MarketWatch (press release)

PHOENIX, AZ, Sep 13, 2011 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- More than 17,800 pets' lives were saved during the most recent PetSmart Charities(R) National Adoption Weekend held in partnership with nearly 2,000 animal-welfare organizations throughout North America.
The three-day event was held Sept. 9-11 in nearly 1,200 PetSmart(R) stores in the United States and Canada. PetSmart Charities, the largest funder of animal-welfare efforts, provided increased adoption-reward grants to all participating shelters and rescue agencies, which received $35 for every pet they adopted in stores during the National Adoption Weekend event.
"The National Adoption Weekends continue to show how many people are willing to make a difference in the lives of homeless pets," said Susana Della Maddalena, vice president and executive director of PetSmart Charities, Inc. "With the strong support of our animal-welfare partners throughout North America, we are helping more pets find the lifelong, loving homes that they deserve."
Since 1994, PetSmart Charities has led pet-adoption efforts across North America, helping more than 4.6 million pets find homes through the PetSmart Charities adoption centers and has provided $134 million in grants and funding to animal-welfare organizations. One pet's life is saved every 39 seconds that the PetSmart Charities' adoption centers are open.
The event was proudly sponsored by Purina(R) Pro Plan(R), Tidy Cats(R) and PetSmart stores in the U.S. and Purina(R) Pro Plan(R), MAXX Scoop(R) and PetSmart stores in Canada.
"Every homeless pet deserves the opportunity to find a forever, loving home," said Kevin Hill, shopper marketing manager, Nestle Purina PetCare Company. "Our goal in supporting the PetSmart Charities' National Adoption events is to help improve the lives of homeless pets by providing them with super premium nutrition as well as other important pet care supplies. We hope by providing these essentials, these pets and new pet owners can now focus on other important matters like growing a bond for life."
The next PetSmart Charities National Adoption Weekend will take place Nov. 11-13.
