Celebrate "Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet" Week - Patch.com
Posted on Monday, September 19, 2011 by Canine Dog Training USA
Petfinder.com, along with animal shelters across America, will celebrate "Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week" from Saturday, Sept. 17 until Sunday, September 25.
The theme, "Don't Hate Me Because I'm _______, Adopt Me Because I Need You," urges people to adopt those pets who suffer from discrimination.
Animal shelters nationwide are encouraging potential adopters to consider pets they might not have usually considered by showcasing animals more susceptible to unfair bias. These animals include those with breed prejudice, older pets, and special needs animals.
The Bukowski Animal Shelter in Bloomfield has a similar program to help older cats find homes. Called "Three for Free," the program waives all adoption fees for cats over the age of three, according to Carolyn Robertson, a volunteer and media coordinator for the shelter.
In honor of "Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week" Petfinder-member shelters and rescue groups were asked to nominate a very special pet in their care who is waiting for a home.
A good example would be "Sally," a good-tempered dalmation-looking mix at the Bloomfield Bukowski Animal Shelter. Sally has a listing on Petfinder.com that reads: "What a great dog she is! She lays down for belly rubs & is just an all around good canine companion. She is between 4-5 yrs, totally housetrained and spayed/up-to-date on all shots. Stop by to meet Sally!"
Another loveable dog, Roxanne, is currently being fostered in the Bloomfield area. Despite her sweet, gentle disposition, Roxeanne is a large, mixed-breed adult dog with a dark coat -- reason enough to make her hard to place in a permanet home. Roxeanne's situation is considered urgent, as she has only one or two days left before her foster home runs out.
All this week, Petfinder.com will be featuring a gallery of "less adoptable" pets on its website to highlight just how many pets need to be given a chance.
For information on Roxanne, contact Kathy: 917-450-5721 ktyates50@Mac.com
For information on Sally or another pet at the Bloomfield Animal Shelter/John A. Bukowski Shelter for Animals visit 61 Bukowski Place, Bloomfield, NJ 07003 or call: 973-748-0194
