Jersey City Setting Up Shelter for Residents with Pets - The Jersey City Independent

By • Aug 27th, 2011 • Category: Blog, News

After the outcry among Jersey City pet owners and animal advocates earlier today when they learned that Jersey City's shelters would not accept pets, the city now says it will open one pet-friendly shelter in the Heights.

The city's Office of Emergency Management will open the Pershing Field Community Center (Summit Avenue and Pershing Plaza) for anyone looking to evacuate with a pet. The shelter will open at 5 pm today.

Residents utilizing this shelter will be required to supply crates and food, as well as other items necessary to safely maintain their pets.

Parking is available at 1 Pershing Plaza in the Pershing Field Pool parking lot.
