Rant & Rave: Special pet edition! - The Seattle Times

Special Pet Edition!

Rave To our new heroes Joe and Ryan for feeding our lost cat and taking her to a vet, where her microchip was scanned so we got her back after she'd somehow made her way from her home in Magnolia to Madison Park!

Rant To dog owners who need to bring "Fifi" everywhere, including the people we saw in a restaurant with their non-service dog sitting on their bench eating off a restaurant plate.

Rave and Rant Rave to the good Samaritans who rescued my dogs when they escaped and got blocks away onto a freeway onramp. I can't thank you enough for bringing my pooches home safe and sound. Rant to me for not being a better dog owner and making sure the door was closed behind me.

Rant To the mom/dog owner who let her dog into the children's play area, where he urinated on the play structure kids were climbing on. And rant on me for not saying anything. Dogs aren't allowed in the play area.

Rant and Rave Rant to the heartless and irresponsible people who dump their unwanted pets near the barn where I board my horse. Rave to the wonderful women there who are running a de-facto rescue shelter for these forgotten animals.

Rant To my flagrantly neglectful neighbors who think it's OK to leave their poor dog alone in their yard, barking, howling and whining all day and into the night.

Rave and Rant Rave to dog owners who are considerate and follow the law. Rant to those who don't follow Seattle rules that dogs must be leashed except in off-leash parks, that dogs aren't allowed in playgrounds or beaches and owners must clean up after them.

Rant To owners who don't put an ID tag on their pets. Microchips are great if the finder can take the pet to a facility where it can be scanned, but much angst and drama could be avoided if owners would put their phone number on their pets so they could be reunited within minutes.

The Seattle Times publishes reader rants and raves on a space-available basis. We reserve the right to edit for length or content. Send yours to rantandrave@seattletimes.com
